Exclusive Interview with Testarossa
Charlotte, NC hard rock band Testarossa recently released the official music video for “Mother Lover” off of their upcoming debut LP Don’t Be Late for the Party. Vocalist Colten Bell answered some of our questions about the music video, collaborating with Danny Worsnop of Asking Alexandria, Def Leppard, and their tour plans.
DFTR: I love the comedy in the video. How much fun did you all have filming it?
CB: It was a blast. I think it sums up our approach to things accurately. Clearly we don’t take ourselves too seriously. At the same time, however, there is a deeper story line if you watch the video analytically.
DFTR: How did you and Danny Worsnop team up for this track?
CB: We did most of our correspondence via email. His vocal tracks were recorded and then sent to us. The parts of the music video featuring Danny were filmed in Atlanta, GA at an Asking Alexandria show. It was a good time. Danny is very funny and easy to work with.
DFTR: I saw a Def Leppard shirt being sported in the video. They are finally being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! Can you talk a bit about their influence on your music?
CB: “Def Leppard sucks!” - Kid Rock. Just kidding. We love Def Leppard. Especially our drummer, Buddy. Pyromania and Hysteria are iconic for a reason, they are excellent. Def Leppard wrote catchy songs, that’s what we try to do as well. Honestly, I think the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a joke. I’m glad Def Leppard is getting inducted, but there are way too many artists that are not rock ‘n’ roll already in it. I’m sorry but, Madonna and LL Cool J?!?! What a joke... good for Def Leppard though.
DFTR: Can we expect more guitar driven and headbanging songs on your upcoming album?
CB: Absolutely! If you can’t fight, drink, or make passionate love to a song, what is it good for? Rock music has been neutered, and I think a large part of the problem is bland guitar tones and lack of guitar solos. So, naturally all of our songs have a solo. It’s the only respectable thing to do. Our songs are carefully crafted to induce an uncontrollable urge to party and forget all of your worldly problems, temporarily at least.
DFTR: Any plans to tour the East Coast?
CB: Yessiree. We will be hitting the road this spring with a fire in our bellies and a twinkle in our eyes, determined to pull rock ‘n’ roll from the feeble state it is in. We have some big dates coming up soon, possibly some opening for Buckcherry. They are not set in stone yet, but they are looking pretty good. Check us out on Instagram and Facebook to keep up with future dates!
