FirstBourne to Open for Stryper
Boston based four piece rock/power metal band FirstBourne are kicking off 2019 with exciting opportunities. With the announcement of opening for Stryper at Tupelo Music Hall in Derry, NH, on January 31st, ticket holder are in for an extra treat.
FirstBourne consists of vocalist Ian Raposa, guitarist Mike Kerr, bassist Ven Thangaraj, and drummer Joe Bertola.
When asked how this opportunity arose, Ven Thangaraj told us, “We had opened a show for Michael Sweet back in Sept 2018 and he liked our music and further conversation turned into this gig.”
Stryper found mainstream success in 1986 with their album To Hell with the Devil which Thangaraj tells us is his favorite album by Stryper and citing “Calling on You” as his favorite track from it.
“All of us in the band are deeply influenced by the rock/metal of the 80’s,” Kerr tells us. “Our songs are high energy with catchy riffs and choruses and have tasty solos. We are playing for 30 minutes so we should be able to squeeze in all the songs from our first album.”
In addition to opening for Styper, FirstBourne has landed an opening spot for Bumblefoot at Greasy Luck in New Bedford, MA on March 3. They also have new music in the works telling us, “We are going into the studio the week of this show to record our album with our new singer (since Sept 2018). The album will contain of 13 to 14 songs, eight of which will be re-recordings of our first album with Ian on vocals, four new songs and one cover. We are planning to record another album by the end of the year with 10 to 12 new songs. Other than that, we are playing out quite a bit and hope to tour the US and Asia this year.”
