Watch 'Rocketman' Clip of Elton John (Egerton) Composing "Your Song"
Rocketman, currently in theaters, depicts the career of Elton John, portrayed by Taron Egerton. A clip from the film shows John at the piano composing his first hit “Your Song.” Meanwhile, his longtime songwriting partner, Bernie Taupin, (played by Jamie Bell) and his mother enter the room to watch. The scene then skips to the recording studio where John lays down the vocals while manager John Reid looks on.
In a press release, John stated why Taron Egerton recorded all the vocals in the movie:
“It was so important that the music I composed and recorded had to be sung by Taron. I wanted his interpretation of me, through Bernie [Taupin]’s lyrics and my music – not just acting. I left Taron in the hands of [producer and composer] Giles Martin, who I trusted implicitly because he’s brilliant.”
